This is a Good Day

Good Saturday April eighteenth as we study God’s word to learn His truth for our lives.

Eutychus falls asleep-

Paul is preparing to go to Jerusalem but there are Jews who intend to harm him and Luke says, were waiting to grab him and Paul caught wind and instead of going through the port by sea he and Luke decide to travel by foot through Macedonia. Let’s remember that the author here is Luke but Luke himself is a physician a doctor, who was the personal physician to Theophilus whom Luke has written and sent the Gospel by him, will also send this letter to Theophilus who has given his permission for Luke to travel and take care of Paul. Acts 1:1-3 “The former account I made, O Theophilus, of all that Jesus began both to do and teach” Colossians 4:14 “Luke the beloved physician and Demas greet you.” As the rest of the team travels through the port, Luke will remain with Paul taking care of his needs, he is elderly and has been beaten stoned unto death and now will walk to Jerusalem to avoid the angry Jews. Let’s read together from  Acts 20:7-12 “Now on the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul, ready to depart the next day, spoke to them and continued his message until midnight. There were many lamps in the upper room where they were gathered together. And in a window sat a certain young man named Eutychus, who was sinking into a deep sleep. He was overcome by sleep; and as Paul continued speaking, he fell down from the third story and was taken up dead. But Paul went down, fell on him, and embracing him said, “Do not trouble yourselves, for his life is in him.” Now when he had come up, had broken bread and eaten, and talked a long while, even till daybreak, he departed. And they brought the young man in alive, and they were not a little comforted.” Luke says that on the first day of the week the disciples came together to fellowship and break bread together. The first day on the calendar here was Sunday and still is today. Although some like to make other days to assemble holier, or as the Jews their Sabbath, clearly we see here that the first day is Sunday when the church of Jesus Christ is meeting. This not to be a hot topic most important is that people congregate and worship the Lord no matter the day. Paul then begins to teach before leaving with Luke and he begins teaching which went into the late hours of the night. Luke tells us Paul was teaching in an upper room on the third floor, which was lighted by candles. Luke says that a man named Eutychus was sitting in an open widow listening to Paul’s teachings. “He was overcome by sleep; and as Paul continued speaking, he fell down from the third story and was taken up dead.” Luke then says Paul stopped teaching went down “fell on him, and embracing him said, “Do not trouble yourselves, for his life is in him.” As Peter before with the girl Tabitha, like Elijah with the widows son, 17:21“And he stretched himself out on the child three times, and cried out to the Lord and said, “O Lord my God, I pray, let this child’s soul come back to him.” Paul lays out on Eutychus who comes back to life as Tabitha and the widows’ son. I love what happened next, Paul makes sure he is fine then goes back upstairs and continues to share, just another day with the Lord. Is this not just amazing? Remnant
